Introducing Ben Tuge.

After 22 years in the art world and being hosted in numerous National Art Galleries, the dynamic visual artist and sculptor Benjamin Tuge will open his first solo exhibition at MB Studio Community on the 3RD of September. We joined him in his work space in Johannesburg to get a glimpse of what his solo exhibition “Introducing Ben Tuge” will have to offer.
Viewing his outdoor work space, where his creations for the solo exhibition are displayed; is a beautiful sight to take in. What is the concept behind the exhibition, I ask? Ben explains; “for me, this exhibition is a form of rebirth. An opportunity to introduce the art world to my new creations and the journey and growth I have under gone to stand with this body of work today.” Ben Tuge found a home with the MB Studio Community, he’s found himself delving deeper into the art and challenging his previous techniques and style.

The upcoming exhibition marks the transition of Ben as an artist, “I’ve challenged myself in terms of the mediums I’m using, It’s my first time using collage paper on wood and many other fusions.” The sculptures on display are moulded with PH plastic creating a bright colour palette that ooze life. The sculptures that will be on exhibit speak to the whole concept of a transformation, they capture a sense of movement and metamorphosis. The figures of the sculpture invite us to imagine the story that is unfolding. His excellent craftsman ship and storytelling are inspiring.

We are excited and anticipating the opening to his exhibition that will surely take the contemporary art world by storm. Head out to the opening of the exhibition at MB Studio Community Gallery on the 3rd of September at 11am.

I have always been that one person that never takes rejection kindly, but I appreciate someone who has the guts to tell me the truth, in any way. I’m big enough to handle the truth. Rejection happens to us in so many ways. It doesn’t matter how beautiful, smart, funny, charming, or awesome you are, there will be times when you meet people who just don’t see it.

If I could write a note to my younger self it would be “Don’t take it all so personally. You’re wonderful, and if someone else doesn’t see it, let it be their problem, not yours.” Unfortunately, my younger self didn’t get the memo and any type of rejection (especially from the opposite sex) would wreck havoc on my self-esteem.Those kinds of wounds can take a lifetime to heal and will inevitably carry over into your next relationship. If you end up in a place where you fear rejection, you’ll start to anticipate it and then you will be more likely to be rejected, thus confirming your initial prediction and affirming your belief that anyone you like won’t like you. This may pave the way for more rejection and on and on and on the vicious cycle goes on.

It took me a long time to learn to deal with rejection, and it is something that I still need to work on this day. The upside is that my experience and past pains have helped me develop certain skills and insights to deal with rejection while keeping my sense of self intact. The fact is, you can’t make everyone like you and you can’t make every guy find you attractive. There will be people who don’t get you or who don’t like your look but none of that matters. Most women have this inexplicable need to make every guy want them and then get upset when they find one who doesn’t and start to wonder what’s wrong with them.

When someone rejects us, most of us will immediately think there must be something intrinsically wrong with us, I mean, why else would he dismiss me? Yet oftentimes it has nothing to do with us. Maybe their life is overly complicated at the moment, maybe they’re overburdened, and maybe they are in a cynical place in their lives and are unable to see the good in others. I know it can feel really personal when someone rejects you…every supermodel was rejected by countless agencies before she found the one who saw her potential, beautiful women get rejected and cheated on, the smartest people don’t always get the job. Rejection is part of life for everyone, no matter how much you have going for you. You are setting yourself up for a lot of unnecessary misery if you take it personally and think it has to be something about you.

Acceptance and Growth.

For a very long time I have been identifying people by their physical appearance, which produces differences between what I perceive as me and the other. But in essence we all come from the same substance, we exhibit unique forms in various degrees but still arise from the same substance. To accept this statement as truth is an act of rebirth, which I personally believe is one of the requirements of human development. Humans have the power to directly influence their development in the various levels they exist in and this requires dedication, honesty with one self, love, patience and faith.

Human development occurs at different levels of existence weather we are aware of it or not. By working with the forces that promote human development, the individual gains a rich life experience, and above all receives the gift of life which is to be in tune with the present moment. By being in tune with the present moment we transcend barriers that our egos create on a daily basis, allowing us to acknowledge TRUTH, to accept that we are Natural beings with the Power to move mountains if we WILL it. We all have this power I speak of, but what makes us different is the time we spend cultivating this force. It starts with thought, then words and action. This is the basic process of creation that we can all use to further develop ourselves.

Creatives on the move!

A year ago, on this day we started our journey as creatives on the move. With just the click of a button we entered into our own world where art is synonymous to the air that we breathe. Fast forward twelve months later, we have had the opportunity to meet the best up and coming artists across all art forms, we have connected with great art communities and last but not least, we’ve had the pleasure of working with the most amazing team.

“It’s great to see how far this movement has come, and to have been part of a platform that is giving so many artists and creatives a voice. I cannot wait to see how much further we’ll be a year from now!” – Nomsa Fakude

“May you keep succeeding and living up to your purpose as  Artizens on the move, happy Birthday!” -Angela Nimah

“Thank you guys for  allowing me to be part of such an incredible team” – Juliet Kamanga

Importance of communication.

I have always had a problem with communicating my feelings to people around my space, although I have always known the importance of communication. A childhood covenant that I made was to avoid upsetting other people. Now this did not always give me a good behaviour, instead, it got me to avoid communicating any topics that I perceived would upset someone else.

Incomplete or total communication avoidance will prevent the topic from being shared and gone through. Many of the relationships I have encountered in life this far, never succeeded because of the lack of communication that was happening, most of them had trouble in breathing. I have always been that one person who is not good in keeping conversations, more especially now, since the innovation of social media. Without the exchange of life energy, the relationship cannot grow, it may struggle, and if it is severe enough, then the relationship suffers and dies. The truth of the matter is that having and maintaining a relationship is not easy. Just as in an individual body, a diseases or illness starts to develop. The key for a healthy and growing relationship is to keep the communication flowing. Those in a relationship know all too well that fairy tales are only true in the movies.

Communication problems are a major source for relationship problems. People in most cases just do not know how to talk to each other. The ability to tell each other thoughts, feeling and wants is so important to a relationship. Good, open and honest communication is like oil to a car. Without oil to the car, internal parts will burn up and the car will be ready for the scrap pile. Communication is important. As I have been meeting new people, I have learned that there are no mind readers. For a relationship to grow and prosper, likes, dislikes, desires, hopes, dreams and problems need to be said. If a couple’s communication is restricted, the relationship is destined for major problems down the road

We take cars for oil changes to keep going strong, so why not seek a professional’s assistance to change our communication patterns in order to keep the relationship in tip top shape just like our automobiles?

In Design.

The way in which we decorate our homes, offices and the spaces we occupy is often a reflection of who we are, and what we find beautiful. Interior designers can only assist you in arranging your space, but it is ultimately up to you to make your home space feel like home to you. Designing our spaces brings out the artists in us when we take on the task of filling the canvas which we call home.

There are many different design styles that can guide you into creating the perfect space for you, here are a few;

Minimalism, the concept of minimalistic design is to keep a space clean, open and reduce the decor in a room to the necessary elements. This is quite trendy currently, but it is timeless and is the epitome of the phrase “simplicity is key”.

Art Deco is a design style that consists mainly of geometric styles in the designs, sleek lines in the furnishing and glass tops.

The Arts and Craft deign style is a thrifters dream, the space is decorated with pieces that often show how they are made, or actual DIY pieces.

The Mediterranean design style is inspired by the coastal regions of Spain. It often mixes fabrics such as velvet, linen and silk and fills the space with lush items.

High Tech design style highlights structure in the furniture that decorates the space, it often has glass or metal finishes and the colours used in the space are mainly neutrals.

When designing and decorating, you do not have to limit yourself to one design style, you can fuse design styles that work for you and create a perfect blend. Think of it as an art project, it is about an expression of the self and finding creative ways to do so. So whether you’re into DIY or Lux and lavish styles go out there and make your space feel like home.
