Salad: Spoken Word Session.

The Poetoria Society gathered at MB Studio Community for a spoken word session “Salad”. This was an open mic session for poets and artists to come together to showcase their creativity while expressing their thoughts on the current Fees Must Fall movement in South Africa. The poets were challenged to write an original poem no longer than 7 minutes inspired by the following quote.

“Schools are the reflection of the society that created them. Nobody is going to give you the education you need to overthrow them. Nobody is going to teach you your true history, teach you your true heroes, if they know that that knowledge will help set you free.” – Assata Shakur

This was a chance for the youth to deeply reflect on the social and ecomomic issues we are facing. It was truly wonderful to see artists actively taking a stance and creating conscious art.
